George Harker (scientist) : ウィキペディア英語版 | George Harker (scientist) George Percy Harker (12 February 1878 – 15 April 1957) was an Australian scientist and inventor.〔(Physics in Australia to 1945 )〕 He spent his professional career alternating between teaching and chemical research. Harker published over a dozen research articles in the field of chemistry and was a Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. He was the inventor of a patented system of extinguishing fires at sea and fumigation.〔(Collection of Booklets about the Harker Patent Fire Extinguisher and Fumigator )〕 ==Early life== Harker was born in Fitzroy, Victoria, to John Harker, a manufacturer, and his wife Priscilla Matilda (née Boase). He was the younger brother of (Constance Harker ) and the grandson of (The Hon. George Harker ). He was educated in Melbourne until the family moved to Petersham, New South Wales, where he attended Newington College (1892–1895).〔Newington College Register of Past Students 1863–1998 (Syd, 1999) pp 83〕 In 1895, Harker won the Wigram Allen Scholarship, awarded by Sir George Wigram Allen, for classics, and at the end of the year was named Dux of the College and received the Schofield Scholarship.〔Newington College Register of Past Students 1863–1998 (Syd, 1999) Part 2 – The Lists〕 He went up to the University of Sydney and in 1899 graduated as a Bachelor of Science.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 publisher =University of Sydney )〕
